Prosser Farmers Market News

Prosser Farmers Market is entering a new season! Linda Hall, long-time manager and Market board treasurer has made the decision to step out of these roles. This difficult decision was a long time in the making and with it came much thought into what the future of the market would look like.

The Prosser Farmers Market is a co-op that began in 1993. It has been successfully running with a volunteer board since then. Most recently the board members included Linda Hall, Kathy Aubrey, Virginia Norton, Becky Jansen, Gary Ballard, Barb Becken and Tim Thomsen. Many volunteers put in countless hours throughout the 6-month market season to make sure that vendors and customers alike are getting the most out of our area’s offerings. Last year, the Market board approached Historic Downtown Prosser to potentially take over the market.

With that proposal in mind, the 2020 season was spent with Historic Downtown Prosser board members volunteering at the market and learning the ropes. In late fall, the decision was made for the Prosser Farmers Market to move forward with handing things over to Historic Downtown Prosser. It is with great anticipation that this program be added to the work that this Main Street organization oversees for the community.

A committee has formed which includes former Farmers Market board members that will oversee the transition. The 2021 season will look much the same as past seasons. There will also be changes as Historic Downtown Prosser takes over the responsibilities that Linda, the rest of the board, and volunteers maintained season after season.
